Tips for a cleaner bookmarks bar
- Icons‑only for frequent sites: Edit a bookmark name to empty so only the favicon shows.
- Use thin spaces: Name a bookmark with a single U+2009 thin space for subtle padding.
- Folders as sections: Use short emojis (📁 🧭 🛠️) or 1–2 letters for folder names.
- Left/Right anchors: Put daily drivers on the left and long‑tail folders on the right.
- Inbox folder: One folder where all new unsorted bookmarks land.
- Quarterly sweep: Create a dated archive folder each quarter; move stale links there.
- Keyboard access: Toggle the bookmarks bar with
Cmd+Shift+B(Mac) orCtrl+Shift+B(Win).
How this works
Each separator is a tiny HTML page that draws a 16×16 PNG on a canvas and sets it as the page favicon. When you visit it (once), Chrome stores that favicon for the bookmark.
